Actiq Coupon Details

Actiq is a medication that is used in the treatment of patients who are suffering from what is referred to as breakthrough pain as a result of cancer. Breakthrough pain is pain that occurs suddenly and ferociously despite the use of pain medication at all hours of the day. It is given to cancer patients who are who are already using another opiate pain medication on a regular basis. People who have developed a tolerance to narcotic pain medications are often prescribed with the drug. Actiq works by altering the way in which the central nervous system and the brain respond to pain.

Actiq and its generic alternative are available either in the form of a lozenge or a tablet. They are typically not prescribed on a set schedule. Instead, the patient is typically told to take them as needed. Despite this, the patient is asked not to take Actiq more than four times within a single day. As with any medication, a patient should follow all of the directions that come with the medication. If they have any confusion about how the medication should be used, they should either discuss it with their doctor or with the pharmacist.

In most cases, the doctor will start the patient off on a small dose of the medication until it is discovered how large of a dose is necessary in order to relieve the pain. When you first start taking the medication, if you try it and discover that you are still experiencing pain, your doctor may ask you to take a second dose. In the case of a lozenge, it can be used after waiting fifteen minutes since the first dose. In the case of the tablet, the wait period is thirty minutes. A second dose of the medication should not be used to control the same episode of breakthrough pain unless the doctor advises the patient to do so. A patient should discuss the effectiveness of the medication with their doctor in order to determine how the dose should be altered, if at all.

Actiq is intended to be used with other pain medications. If the medication starts working, this does not mean that you should stop taking any other pain medications, unless you are told to do so by a doctor. It is important to realize that the medication has the possibility of becoming habit forming. Do not change your dosage without speaking to your doctor.
