Humira Coupon Details

The drug Humira is used to prevent the protein TNF, or tumor necrosis factor, from producing damage to the joints and inflammation in the body. It is used to treat a number of different ailments such as Crohn’s disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatric arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing, and plaque psoriasis.

Humira dosage is given to patients by an injection under the skin and is administered in either the stomach or in the thigh. To apply the medication, pens or pre-filled single use syringes are commonly used. Patients taking Humira are usually given a “loading” dose, the dosage of which will vary with the condition that is being treated. After the loading dose, usually 40 mg is prescribed to be taken. A patient being treated for Crohn’s disease, for example, would be given a loading dose of 4, 40mg injections at the start of treatments on the same day or it may be broken up over two days, 2 – 40 mg doses on two consecutive days. Following that, two 40 mg of the drug will be given in another two weeks. Regular dosages of 40mg every other week will be taken by the patient from then on.

There are several side effects of the drug that range from minor to more serious in nature. The more minor side effects include headaches and minor side effects experienced at the injection site such as pain or itching, redness, swelling, and bleeding. The more serious symptoms include mouth sores, joint pain, jaundice, chest and muscle pain, skin rash which appears scaly, red, or purple, shortness of breath with swollen ankles or feet. Patients experiencing these symptoms should immediately seek medical attention.

Allergic reactions may be experienced by patients. When this occurs emergency medical treatment should be immediately sought. Signs of an allergic reaction include, hives, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, throat, tongue, and lips. The medication should be immediately stopped if symptoms of an infection are seen, such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, chills, fatigue, flu-like symptoms sore throat and weight loss.

The use of Humira reduces your resistance to infections, so you will be more at risk to fall ill should you come in close contact with someone who is sick. Prior to administering Humira to a patient, a doctor will give a blood test or a test for tuberculosis. The doctor must be told if you have suffered from tuberculosis or even if anyne else in your family has had the condition. The reason for this is you may be at a greater risk for such conditions as autoimmune disease like lupus, cancers such as non-melanoma skin cancer and lymphoma.

If you are self-dosing, Humira should be refrigerated until needed. If you are infected with any condition, Humira should be discontinued because it would make the active infection worse. After the infection has cleared, the medication can be resumed. The medication should not change color or contain particles in it. If it does it should be immediately changed. Sharps disposal containers should be obtained from a pharmacist or doctor and used for disposal of the used pens or syringes – they should never be thrown in the garbage.
