Lipitor Coupon Details

Lipitor, generically known as atorvastatin, is used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in addition to exercise, diet, and weight loss. Lipitor also decreases the risk that those with heart disease will need heart surgery and reduces the amount of cholesterol in the blood, decreasing the risk of stroke and heart attack. Lipitor slows down "bad" cholesterol production in the entire body, preventing the buildup of fatty substances along blood vessel walls, while increasing the production of "good" cholesterol.

Lipitor comes in tablet form and is to be taken once daily, with or without food, around the same time each day. Do not break the pill, but tell your doctor if you have trouble swallowing it. Follow the instructions your doctor gives you and those which are printed on your prescription. Be sure to have your doctor or pharmacist explain anything you may not understand. You may start on a low dose of Lipitor and gradually increase dosage every 2-4 weeks. You will need to get blood tests often to make sure the medication is working properly. Do not stop taking Lipitor without first consulting your doctor.

Before taking Lipitor, let your doctor know if you are allergic to atorvastatin or any other medications, and also discuss any medications you are currently taking, since various drugs may interact with Lipitor. Do not start taking other medications after starting Lipitor without consulting your doctor first. For optimum effectiveness, eat a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet in addition to taking Lipitor, and avoid foods with excess fat. Do not drink alcohol while taking Lipitor, as it may increase your risk of liver damage.

Lipitor has some mild side effects which include diarrhea, gas, constipation, joint pain, and headache. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any serious side effects, including muscle pain, fever, chest pain, flu-like symptoms, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or swelling. These side effects are rare but a small number of patients have reported their occurance. This medication is to be used for adults and children older than ten. Do not use Lipitor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and stop taking it if you become pregnant, since Lipitor can harm the unborn baby or cause birth defects, and it can pass into breast milk and harm a baby that is nursing.
