Norvasc Coupon Details

Norvasc, or amlodipine, is a calcium channel blocking drug. It widens and relaxes blood vessels, and as a result, improves blood flow and oxygen levels.

What does Norvasc treat?
Typically, Norvasc treats patients with high blood pressure and those that need additional oxygen to the brain. Since high blood pressure can have little or no noticeable effects, continuously taking this drug is recommended. Even if patients are feeling well, discontinuing blood pressure medication can be dangerous and detrimental to the body. Chest pain, also known as angina, has been improved by Norvasc as well. Coronary Artery Disease and its effects on the body have also been treated by this prescription drug.

How does Norvasc work?
Since Norvasc relaxes the blood vessels, the heart does not have to pump as hard. Increasing amounts of blood are supplied to the heart more quickly, and oxygen levels increase. As a result, blood pressure is lowered and chest pain can be avoided. In relation to these, risk of stroke, heart attack, or kidney problems may be reduced as well.

How are dosages prescribed?
Doctors take medical history, current problems, weight, age, and other factors into account when prescribing this drug. It is taken orally and doctors take note of any negative reactions to the amount. Adjusting prescription amounts typically takes place as a result.

Does Norvasc have side effects?
Since it lowers blood pressure, patients taking Norvasc should be sure to consult their doctors about the safety of this drug in their specific situation. For chest pain patients, pain may actually increase soon after beginning treatment, or after receiving higher dosages of the medication. Dizziness and nausea may occur, so patients should avoid getting up quickly. Steadily rising from horizontal positions is best while taking Norvasc in order to prevent falling or injury. Swelling in the extremities has been reported. Pounding heartbeats, fainting, or feelings of irregular heart rhythms can be more dangerous side effects. Stomach pain, drowsiness, and headache are also possible.

Norvasc and Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
This drug is a Category C drug. It is not known whether use of this drug during pregnancy will harm an unborn baby, so refraining from using this medication is best. Breastfeeding while taking Norvasc is not recommended.
