Percocet Coupon Details

Percocet is the brand name for the prescription pain killer that is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen. Oxycodone is a narcotic painkiller that has the potential for addiction and abuse. It is prescribed for instances of acute pain, and is rarely recommended for long term, or chronic, pain therapy.

Percocet is available in many different increments, with the most common being either 5/500 or 10/500 milligrams. The first number represents the level of oxycodone and the second is the amount of acetaminophen contained in each pill. All Percocet pills are labeled as Schedule II controlled substances due to the high tendency of addiction and abuse.

Percocet is one of the most commonly prescribed narcotic painkillers. It is an opiate, which is why the potential for abuse is so high. Those who are prescribed Percocet on a regular basis will be required to sign a pain contract with their doctor and will be required to submit to random unire tests to check that they are taking the drug as prescribed. Those who receive Percocet for periods of acute pain will usually be required to return to their doctor if they need even one refill of their prescription.

The most common side effects of Percocet are things like lightheadedness, dizziness, sedation, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. These side effects are more common in patients who are ambulatory, and could be alleviated if the patient lies on their back. Other fairly common side effects are constipation, pruritus, euphoria, and dysphoria. Percocet carries many risks for negative side effects that include allergic reaction, abnormal skin reactions, hearing loss, confusion, and hypoglycemia.

Percocet should not be mixed with alcohol, other opiods, or any other substance that reacts to the central nervous system, as these substances could enhance the effects of the prescription. Patients taking anti depressant medication or medication for anxiety should be carefully monitored when taking Percocet.

As with any opiate, respiratory depression is a risk for those who are prescribed Percocet. Elderly patiuents and patients with pulmonary or respiratory problems have a higher risk of respiratory depression than healthy patients taking the same dose.
